#12067 Returning from a Pandemic, In a Pandemic: Support Students with a Brain-Based Approach to Social Emotional Learning

Join us for this wonderful September series of Five, One-hour, Virtual Professional Learning Workshops

Session 1, September 1: The Brain on Stress & COVID-19- An overview Stress is not inherently bad. The dose, type, and time in which we experience stress can dictate its impact on our bodies and brains. In this session, we will discuss what types of stress have been experienced during COVID-19 and what that means for us and our students moving forward.

Session 2, September 8: What do we mean when we say “engagement?” Engagement means something different now that we are engaging in schooling during a pandemic. Understanding how the brain engages (or doesn’t) is critical for planning and instruction and can directly impact student learning. This session will offer an opportunity to explore the multiple types of pathways learning can occur while honing in on the sequence of engagement that all humans use to access new information.

Session 3, September 15: Supporting Self-Regulation Self-regulation is certainly a buzzword. We all want to know how to self-regulate, and how to teach our kids to do the same. But is it really as simple as taking 3 deep breaths? And if it is, why does that work? What if 3 deep breaths supports self-regulation, what else does the same? Explore all of these questions and more in the third session of the brain-based series.

Session 4, September 22: Mental and emotional states in the [remote] classroom This session will focus specifically on the behaviors and indications of an over-activated and under-activated stress response system. We will use this learning to inform decisions about interventions & preventions that best support adults and students in various mental states.

Session 5, September 29: Practice What You Preach: Self-Care for Educators We tell kids to take deep breaths…but what about us? This session will support you in creating a self-care plan for the upcoming school year with a focus on sustainability and overall wellness.

Note:Refunds will be issued only to participants who call the ROE office to cancel (5) working days before the date of the program. BHS ROE CO-OP participants will be charged if they do not follow this same cancelation procedure.
