This workshop will discuss the new civics law, which requires all students to pass a civics course before graduation. In this daylong workshop, participants will receive instruction and FREE resources to help implement the proven practices of civics into their classroom to guide their students in becoming better citizens in the community. An emphasis will be placed on service learning and how to manageably incorporate it into you classroom.
In addition, this workshop will focus on the phenomena of fake news. News literacy is becoming a critical skill all students should gain to help them consume information responsibly. As we live in the ever growing digital age, where consumption of information happens just as fast as it is produced, this workshop will look at strategies and methods for teachers to take back to their students and assist them in becoming better consumers and producers of information. This workshop is being sponsored by The McCormick Foundation.
