Common and serious mistakes made by leaders of a change process is to presume that once a new school improvement initiative has been introduced and initial training has been completed, teachers will put the initiative into practice and that all users of the new initiative will react in similar ways. The focus of this course is on providing participants diagnostic techniques for assessing individuals involved in a change process in order to understand them and their needs. Participants will learn how to (1) develop a component checklist that describes what a new school improvement initiative (program, process, or practice) will look like in operation within a classroom; (2) identify which of the seven stages of concern teachers are experiencing in the change process and suggestions on interventions that respond to each stage of concern; and (3) identify the extent to which teachers are using new practices or levels of use and the strategies to move teachers to higher levels of use of an implementation effort.
Note:Refunds will be issued only to participants who call the ROE office to cancel (5) working days before the date of the program. BHS ROE CO-OP participants will be charged if they do not follow this same cancelation procedure.
