See the Sound Visual Phonics (STS/VP) is a multisensory system that represents the sounds of English in a concrete and visible way, providing a multi-modal means for students to map sound-to-print. STS/VP aligns well with brain-based learning & instruction, and has proven to be an exciting and effective method of establishing the Alphabetic Principle and teaching phonological, phonemic and phonics skills necessary for success in reading, spelling & writing. Since STS/VP is a strategy (not a program), it is an integral component of Differentiated Instruction and can be used as both universal and targeted interventions with the RTI process.
STS/VP is regularly used in General Education classrooms, preschool settings, elementary & secondary Special Education programs, ELL programs, classrooms and itinerant services for Deaf & Hard of Hearing, and adult literacy programs. Visual Phonics is also an effective tool for helping students with speech disorders to develop/modify speech sound productions and auditory discrimination skills, beginning as early as age 3.
Participants will learn the STS/VP system and appropriate uses of STS/VP with students in various settings and varying needs. Direct application and implementation for instructional practices for RTI and Common Core will be discussed. Reading research that addresses phonological core deficits and how these deficits impact decoding & encoding will be shared. Participants will leave with a specific plan for implementation at the end of each of the 2 training days.
Note:Refunds will be issued only to participants who call the ROE office to cancel (5) working days before the date of the program. BHS ROE CO-OP participants will be charged if they do not follow this same cancelation procedure.
