4-15-26 — #13157 The Brain Behind Behavior

Date: April 15, 2026

This professional learning session explores how the brain functions under stress and trauma and why behavior looks different when students are operating outside of their cortex. Participants will build a foundational understanding of key brain structures, examine common stress responses—fight, flight, freeze, and fawn — and learn how these survival states impact learning, behavior, and decision-making. The session will then focus on state-dependent functioning and provide practical, relationship-based strategies educators can use to help students move from survival mode back into their thinking brain, where learning and self-regulation are possible.

Location: Bureau, Henry, Stark Regional Office of Education #28. Atkinson, IL
