21st Century Community Learning Center

The mission of the Bureau, Henry, Stark Regional Office of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers is to provide expanded opportunities for positive youth development through high-quality academic, enrichment and recreational programming outside of the school day. These programs align with the school day and reinforce the standards of the state of Illinois.

The schools benefiting from the grants are AlWood Elementary, AlWood Middle/High School, Cambridge Elementary, Cambridge Junior/Senior High School, Colona Grade School, Galva Junior/Senior High School, Kewanee Belle Alexander Early Childhood Learning Center, Kewanee Central Junior High School, Kewanee High School, La Moille Allen K-3, Neponset Grade School, Ohio Grade School, Ohio High School, Wethersfield Junior/Senior High School.

The 21^st CCLC grant program supports extended learning and academic improvement opportunities that bridge achievement gaps and are aimed to help students in high-poverty, low-performing schools meet state and local performance standards in core subjects, such as reading and math. The programs offer a variety of services to students and their parents/caregivers to promote social-emotional development and cultural enrichment, including drug and violence prevention lessons, counseling, Art, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs, music and recreation classes, technology education and character education.

Programs also offer family events and provide literacy and related educational services for parents and caregivers to better engage families in school activities. All activities allow students to spend more time in a learning environment and occur during non-school hours (before or after school) or periods when school is not in session.
